Aiste Kalabuchova-Gontijo trained as a professional dancer in her home country of Lithuania, graduating from Klaipeda University where she studied Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Latin, Ballroom, Drama, and National Dance. She then went on to perform with one of Lithuaniaâs most eminent dance groups, “Zelmeneliai”.
In 2002 Aiste moved to London where she completed an International Dance Teachers Association course and studied with leading salsa performers and teachers including Joe Davids, Susana Montero, Super Mario and Andrea Stewart. Aiste soon established a reputation as one of the cityâs most popular salsa dancers and went on to perform internationally with all-girl group âDuende Dance Companyâ, as well as with her dance partners Mauro Casali and Shaan. Aiste taught for the Latin Collective Team for two years and also for Latin Dance Academy, Londonâs largest Latin dance school. In 2009 Aiste went on to form her own dance company, âLatin Iceâ.
Aiste has taught and performed at major Salsa Congresses throughout Europe, including Rovinj (Croatia), Dublin (Ireland), Riga (Latvia), Berlin (Germany), Athens (Greece) and Amsterdam (Netherlands,) visiting 22 countries around the world. In 2009 she met Brazilian dancer Arthur Gontijo, and having fallen in love they moved to Uberlandia (Brazil) where they married and founded a dance academy âInovadanca â, which continues to go from strength to strength. They have performed and taught together at congresses in Europe and South America, including the First Rio Salsa Congress in Rio de Janeiro, the 7th Brazil Salsa Congress in Sao Paulo, and the Ladiesâ Salsa Congress in Brasilia.
Aiste Kalabuchova is a dancer and instructor of international repute. She has a gift for making even the hardest of steps and routines simple to follow, and has a deep commitment to her students, which is evident in the quality of her teaching and the popularity of her classes. Aiste is famous for her grace and elegance on the dance floor, performing complex moves and routines with effortless style.
